The Warwickshire market town of Bedworth lies 5 miles north of Coventry and 3 miles south of Nuneaton. In the middle of the 19th century it held its own race meeting on Monday 20th April 1840 when the principal race, the Bedworth Whip Sweepstakes, was won by Quill. Given the success of the meeting, and its inclusion in the Sporting Magazine, it is surprising that no future meetings were staged in the town. |
